Market towns have an old English charm that dates back centuries, and Yorkshire is nationally known for its wide range of markets.
North Yorkshire is a non-metropolitan county rich with history, beautiful countryside and many markets – so which one should you go to?
This February, Enterprise Travel has planned trips to three different market towns in North Yorkshire – join us on 14th February for a trip to Ripon and Harrogate markets or the 22nd February to check out Leyburn market!
What to expect:
The traditional elegant town of Harrogate was once an exclusive destination for European High Society because of its beautiful spas, exquisite scenery and fresh air.
This idea of Harrogate is still relevant today, known for indulgence, exclusive shops and afternoon tea – if you book in advance you can dine at the famous Betty’s Tea Room.
Harrogate is a vibrant destination with a plethora of independent retailers, quirky eateries and quintessentially British cobbled streets.
The vibe of Harrogate is reflected on market day with a mix of eclectic unique clothing stalls and local food and drink products.
Ripon is the third smallest city in the UK, home to Ripon Cathedral and former home to the famous author Lewis Carroll.
The stunning interior of the cathedral inspired many of Lewis Carroll’s characters in Alice in Wonderland and is located just around the corner from the marketplace.
This busy little city has held market day every Thursday since as early as the 10th century. The market holds over 100 stalls and is located on a market square in the centre of Ripon.
You can expect to see delicious local produce, classic market stalls and unique jewellery retailers.
Book your day out to Harrogate and Ripon from just £14.00pp*.
This market town is known as the capital of Wensleydale and sits beautifully on the River Ure.
Leyburn is also proudly home to the largest auction house outside of London. Tennants Auctioneers has been operating since the late Victorian ages and auctions a range of high-end antiques and fine art.
The market includes an array of stalls selling a variety of products from local food, hand-crafted ornaments to antiques.
