The Lake District
The Lake District is magical any time of the year but in autumn the beautiful colours of the leaves make for seriously stunning views! This is the prettiest time of the year to visit the Lake District and you can capture some amazing pictures.
The Lake District isn’t just about the landscapes, with loads of activities you can fit in on a day trip. Kick up the leaves, pick up fruit to make your own gin and spend the evening with a pint by a cosy fireplace. The Lake District is also a brilliant place to find early Christmas gifts for your loved ones!
The historic pubs, inns and cosy restaurants are the perfect getaway for a warm break. Roaring fires, delicious food, craft ales and friendly people will make your visit even more special.

Sunderland Illuminations are back, and we have not one, but two-day trips planned to visit the festival! This year’s festival will be open from Thursday 18th of October until Sunday the 18th of November including weekends.
This event will fill your autumn nights with light and magic. The event transforms Sunderland’s Roker and Seaburn with millions of lights, giant light art and light sculptures. The festival takes place along the coast and the Victorian Roker Park will also be completely taken over with sculptures.
This year, the festival will also boast new light works featuring dinosaurs, pirates and fairies which makes it absolutely perfect for the young members of the family. Plus, if you want to view Sunderland’s coastline from a different perspective, jump on the illuminated observation wheel.
Autumn is a lovely time of the year to visit the world-famous open-air Beamish Museum, with lovely colours of nature making everything seem even more enchanting than usual!
Beamish Museum is set in 300 acres of the beautiful Durham countryside. The museum tells the story of life in the North East of England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s.
Alnwick Garden is open all seasons but the displays are absolutely magnificent this time of the year. The garden is arranged in themed areas, including a poison garden and during this time of the year, an autumn/Halloween garden. The sculptures, the water features and interactive exhibits make the garden seem magical whatever the weather.
This season you can find your way around the seasonal gardens or you can attend their Halloween events with your family. The Daybreak event is on from the 27th of October to the 31st of October from 11am to 5:30pm and it includes spooky sights and Halloween crafts perfect for children and students.
If you are feeling brave, the Dead of Night event might be for you. The event is on from the 27th of October to the 31st of October from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and it includes a spooky walk around the garden at night and getting lost in the scary Bamboo Labyrinth!
